1.00Can i vent my dryer to the water heater in the garage?
Q.I bought a new washer and dryer over the summer and recently noticed some problems with mold in the garage. i did a some research and looking around in my garage, i found out that the installers never installed a vent for the dryer to let the moist air escape the garage.
my question is, is the bigger pipe in the middle of my water heater a vent to the exterior? if so, can i add a T adapter, or whatever you call it, and vent my dryer through there? any and all help is greatly appreciated.
A.No, the dryer need to be vented separately. The water heater vent or flue should not be used for any other purpose.
Doing what you suggest could cause a fire.
Just install a seperate vent for the dryer
1.00Who should I call to have my refrigerator moved from my kitchen to the garage?
Q.I rent, and my new kitchen only has about 3 ft. of counter space. I would like to move the fridge to the garage (just outside of the kitchen), so I can set a stock cabinet/countertop, or a small buffet or something, in the space. Who should I call (once I get approval from the L.L.) to do it safely? Would the landlord's "guy" do it? Call a moving company? a handyman?
Also, there are 5 steps down to the garage.
A.Rent or borrow an appliance dolly and move it yourself.
1.00Garage Door Radiant Heat Sheild Installation???
Q.I live in the Texas, and my Garage Door faces directly south. Of course, my garage gets very HOT, and consequently, this makes it nearly impossible to use for any parctical purpose other than parking the car in there...
So I'm thinking of adding a Radiant Heat Barrier / Sheild to the inside of the garage door, in an effort to prevent heat transfer through the door itself (this would be the first step of a few, towards getting AC into the garage)...
I've searched, and there is NOT much useful information about this on the web.
My question is... considering the above, and the relative low cost of Radiant Heat Barrier insulation at the big box stores, what is the best way to install this...
I see some methods where the Heat Barrier is installed directly INTO each of the sections of the four garage Door Panels, and others methods where the Heat Barrier completely "blankets" the four sections of the whole door, and does not fill the gap in each of the sections.
What's best?
ai do plan on doing this myself.. it's not a big job... and I've already researched for the lowest material price...
So.. when I do install... do I install within the panel (minimal air gap, or as a blanket on the outside of the door?
A.They make kits for this. Call the person who installed your door or any reputable installer.
1.00Need a reasonable handy man who can take down my garage door?
Q.Need a reasonabile handy man who can take down my garage door and put up windows and french doors in PLACE OF THE garage door....it seems like a simple project, I will use a window unit for air and Ill lay indoor out door carpet..i wanted to suprise my husband for his 40th b day with a pool table in our new room..Any Ideas what that would cost and any real contractors who need the work???????
A.Great idea! I can do the windows for you and I have a friend who can do all the other small jobs for you.
1.00What garage flooring / carpeting would be appropriate for my garage?
Q.Hi. I'm trying to pimp up my garage this summer, was wondering what would be a good flooring for it? The room is a game room / sports room....I have a ping pong table, dartboard, tv, sports photos, etc....
So I'm looking for recommendations about which specific flooring or carpeting would be good for it and what store I could pick it up at? Thanks.
edit: Mainly I'm looking for what material for the floor works best in the garage.
A.Cheapest and most durable would be the rubber/foam backed berber off the big rolls at the Home improvement stores. This composite carpet can be laid directly over any subfloor without the need to install a vapor barrier or a carpet pad. The foam backing itself acts as a moisture barrier and carpet pad. It's really easy to DIY.
1.00How do you switch a gas water heater to propane?
Q.I took out a propane water heater and I have a gas water heater. I need to convert the new gas water heater to the existing propane.
A.There may be, but I've never heard of a combination gas valve. I've done a lot of these conversions and the two gases require different springs in the main valve, different burner orifice sizes, and the pilot orifices are different as well. Kits are available. Start with your propane provider.
1.00Average cost per square foot for a home addition?
Q.I am considering an addition of 785SF of living space to my home above a new two car garage. How much should I expect to pay per square foot? Minimal escavating is needed to add the garage.
A.It's hard for me to provide this estimate to you being I don't know your home, tastes, and region, but I can give you an idea or scope for the project, garage with above living quarters, $65 to $100. per square foot.

Garage Conversions
The garage tends to quickly become a junkyard that is used to hold all the junk that can't fit into the house. A garage conversion can help you transform the garage into a livable space by redoing the interiors, partitioning the garage, adding heating and air conditioning systems to make a complete family room, home office or even an extra bedroom. You can even convert your garage into a hobby room, a workshop, or a music studio. Take space constraints into consideration before converting your garage to a family room or bedroom.
Your garage conversion plan should include co ordination with the rest of the house. For instance, if you are replacing the garage door with a window, make sure it blends in with the other windows of the house. The point is to make it look like it's an integral part of the house. When it comes to interiors however, you can let your imagination run wild. Ask your garage contractor about upgrades to be made to the roof and walls. If you have a flat roof, you may need to upgrade it before you invest in converting the garage into a livable space.
Check with your local Tucson, AZ area building authorities about special requirements that are needed for a garage conversion. For instance, if your garage conversion affects the drainage system, you may need to apply for special permits. If in doubt, ask for the advice of your surveyor. The time to get your permits in place is before you start work on the project.

I'm thinking about buying a fixer condo, 922 square feet total, 2 bed, 2 bath. I'd like to get a ballpark idea of what a total replacement of everything would be. Carpet, paint, bathrooms, kitchen, all appliances, built in closet systems. I want to go midrange or less. I'm not looking for high end.
